THE BAND

The Rockin Johnny B [John Belville] has been playing music since the age of fifteen.  He started out playing drums in bars at the age of nineteen and was on the road making music at the age of twenty-three.  His influences are Elvis, Jerry Lee, Waylon, Willie and John Cash.  John booked out of Wichita Falls, Texas and played with Orville Couch who wrote HELLO TROUBLE.  Later, after leaving the road in 1974, he began playing in Caldwell, Idaho and met up with his old pal Henry Boynton whom he had known since 1968 in Pocatello, Idaho and Idaho Falls, Idaho.  They have been together playing music ever since.  John's great love has been music.  He's been involved in music since birth -- John's mother was an operatic contralto and sung in many choirs including the Idaho State University Choir.  John cannot remember a time when he wasn't listening and learning how to play and sing.

Friendly Henry [Henry Boynton] has been playing music for over fifty years.  He's an accomplished guitar and mandolinist and teaches music full time.  He's been a member of The Knights Band since its inception some 25 years ago.  His influences are Rodney Crowell, Joe Maphis, Chet Atkins and Skeets McDonald.  Henry also spent his time on the road as a traveling musician, but like John decided to settle down in the Treasure Valley in 1974.  Henry has over 50 years of musical experience and is a very accomplished picker.

Matt Belville started playing with The Knights Band at the age of 19 [he is currently 37].  He has been playing with the band off and on ever since.  He learned to play the correct way...by being taught professionals.  He is a schooled drummer and is technically one of the best this band has ever played with or known.  He fits the Knights like a glove.  We are indeed fortunate to have him with us, even though he cannot play all the gigs we book because of his job commitments.

Beau Shatto is the a new member of the band.  He plays rhythm guitar and does harmony also [we are working him into singing lead also].  He is a welcome member and we appreciate him greatly.  When Henry plays mandolin, the rhythm guitar is takes up the slack normally taken up with guitar. As Henry says, "rhythm guitar sure makes my job easier when I'm playing mandolin."

The latest addition to the band, singer-songwriter Josh Belville.  He is John's youngest son [age 25] and this is the first professional 'band' gig -- he has been doing a single in coffee houses around the valley.  Josh graduated from Boise State University this year with a Fine Art degree in Drama.  He started playing guitar when he was eighteen.

John and Henry first met each other in the late '60s.  John was playing in a club and Henry was playing in another club close by.  John liked the sound of Henry's band [Brand X] and stopped by on his breaks to give a listen.  Then one day he was asked to sit in.  John sang a Waylon song and he talked in depth with Henry and the other band members.  John is still friends with the other Brand X members and, of course, Henry who he linked up with in 1974.  So, in truth, Henry and John have been friends for 40 years, pickin pals for 20-plus of those 40 years.  I guess you could call them the Homer and Jethro of the local Americana scene [they wish].

The new members in the group, Josh, Matt and Beau are fine musicians and add greatly to the New Knights Band's sound.  Matt is one of the best all-around drummers in the Treasure Valley and possibly the best Country Drummer in the state.  Beau is as good rhythm guitar player and will be handling vocals soon.  Josh writes songs and sings harmony and plays good rhythm guitar also.

The Knights Band has its roots in Country Music, but it also has ties to Rockabilly Music.  The band was formed originally and was named The Country Knights, but when the music got more eclectic than the word 'country' conveyed, then it became The Knights Band back in the late eighties.

Our 4th CD will be out shortly.  In fact, it's in the can as of this writing 2/4/07.  It's our 'song writers' album and it'll be good.  A lot of the songs are great, but they are songs you've probably never heard on popular country stations, and that's what makes 'em good.
